FROM REFUGEE TO CEO: HOW TO DISRUPT WITH HUMILITY, WITH THE FOUNDER OF THE AMINATA MATERNAL FOUNDATION, AMINATA-CONTEH BIGER

16

Today I'm humbled and delighted to be chatting to Aminata Conteh-Biger: Mother, friend, and founder of The Aminata Maternal Foundation. A former refugee from Sierra Leone, Aminata is a Special Representative for Australia with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

Aminata is also the author of Rising Heart, and her touching story will undoubtedly fill your heart with all of the joy that she so warmly exudes. Kidnapped at age 18 during the civil war in Sierra Leone, Aminata now champions the plight of refugees in Australia, reminding us, firstly, of their status as human beings.

When she's not speaking up for the unrepresented, she is fulfilling her vocational purpose through the Aminata Maternal Foundation, which seeks to provide a safe, affordable, and high quality service for Mothers and babies to experience safe delivery during childbirth.

As a Mother of two, she almost lost her daughter in 2012, which provided the impetus for her to build her foundation, which has contributed to saving the lives of over 10,000 Mothers and babies.

Aminata's experience can give us strength, while her joyful drive can inspire us to lead with greater integrity and create an impact in our communities. Please join me in conversation with a truly remarkable woman!

“I never want to be in a place where I feel like I'm morally better than that person. I think the Power of Now has really taught me that. The moment you're judging, you're saying, 'hey, I'm better than you'. And that's when I always have to be conscious and go, 'hold on a minute, they don't know what you've done. You know all that.’ So I always have to be in a place of grace.” ~ Aminata Conteh-Biger
